Melody
Women's health app with seasonal cycle tracking and an AI Menstrual Coach — built solo from zero to production
I co-founded Melody (Flow With The Seasons) as the sole mobile developer — taking a women’s health idea from blank canvas to App Store and Play Store alongside a non-technical product co-founder.
Predict your period, phase and season
Melody frames the cycle in seasons — spring, summer, autumn, winter — so patterns feel intuitive rather than clinical. The home screen centres on a colour-coded cycle ring that shows where you are today, which phase you’re in, and what’s coming next.
Track what matters to you
Daily check-ins cover 14+ dimensions: menstruation, nervous system, energy, emotions, mental state, physical sensations, cravings, BBT, sleep, and more. Users choose what to track and log it in under a minute.
Get deep, personal insights
Tracked data feeds into 15+ insight graph types — patterns across cycles, averages over time, and per-symptom breakdowns. Users can export healthcare reports as PDFs to share with practitioners.
Sync your schedule with your season
The calendar colour-codes every day by phase and season, so planning around energy and mood shifts becomes second nature. Apple Health sync keeps menstrual flow data consistent across apps.
Access unlimited support articles
A library of 120+ educational articles — organised by season, symptom, and condition — helps users understand what’s happening hormonally. Content is piped from Google Docs through a custom HTML pipeline.
Smart cycle-based reminders
Notifications adapt to the user’s current season, nudging rest during winter or celebrating spring energy. The AI Menstrual Coach goes further — Vertex AI (Gemini) with RAG, function calling, and end-of-cycle reports that summarise energy, symptoms, and emotions.
Under the hood
Behind the polished UI sits a Melos monorepo with shared packages, a Widgetbook design-system workspace, and a separate privacy-first offline tracker with Hive encryption. Firebase powers auth, Firestore, and 12+ Cloud Functions; RevenueCat handles freemium subscriptions.
With no other mobile engineer on the team, quality had to be built in: 250+ test files spanning unit, widget, golden, BDD, integration (against real Gemini), and Patrol E2E. Fastlane and GitHub Actions ship to both stores; Shorebird patches production without waiting on store review.
